To new bloggers, meta tag or meta data might be something you've never heard off. Some might be thinking, what the heck is a meta tag? All I want is just to start a simple blog and make tons of money from the ads.
Well the reason is simple, if you want to make money from blogging, you've got to get traffic. To get the traffic, you need meta tag. I am not guaranteeing that thousands of visitors would be thronging your site the day after adding the meta tags. What I intend to say here is that by adding meta tag to your blog, you've taken another step towards increasing traffic to your blog.
Brian from blog.hubspot.com wrote a simple explaination about meta tag that I think its worthy of a read. Read what Brian has to say about Meta Tag here.
From Brian's explaination about meta tag, it is clear that there are 3 meta tags that should be included into your blog. The first is the title meta tag, followed by the description meta tag and lastly the keyword meta tag.
Today, I will be sharing steps on how to add the description and keyword meta tag to your blogspot. Why did I leave out the title meta tag? The reason is simple, in blogspot you've already defined your title meta tag the moment you enter the Title for your blog. Blogspot automatically uses your blog title as your title meta tag. If you see the sample picture below, the title of your blog is the same as the title meta tag appearing at the top of your webpage.
That aside, let's move on to adding the description and keyword meta tag to your blog.
Adding meta tag requires some HTML editing on your blog template. Fear not as the steps are simple and easy to understand. I've always mentioned in my past posts that you should always backup your blog template before making changes on the HTML codes. God knows if you accidentally delete a whole chunk of your HTML code while attempting to add the meta tag codes. Your backup blog template might be your only saviour then.
To backup your blog template,
Go to Layout -> Edit HTML -> Download Full Template
Once you've backed up your blog template, you're now ready to take the plunge.
Start by locating the following HTML codes (located somewhere near the top):
<head>
<b:include data='blog' name='all-head-content'/> <title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>
<b:skin><
